Irene Chan, a long-time student of the renowned Chinese painter Mak Ching, born in Hong Kong, emigrated to Canada in the late 1980’s. She picked up Chinese painting after moving to Canada and had been taking lessons for more than 10 years from Mak who is prominently recognized in Canada, Hong Kong and China for his landscape and floral paintings. Inspired by Mak’s unique style as well as impeccable technique, Chan specializes in landscape painting and paints in water colour and Chinese ink. Chan’s exhibition will be holding an art exhibition September 9-14, 2023 at the Ontario Chinese Artists Association. In memory of Mak, who passed away in March 2022, exhibits include traditional as well as abstract landscape paintings. As a tribute to Mak, the exhibition will feature several paintings that mimic Mak’s original work, alongside with photos of Mak’s originals for reference.
